lorraine/rainey: Christians vs Christianity »

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”-Gandhi

And Gandhi is so RIGHT. Christians have to be the most horrible, judgmental, close-minded people on the planet. I can only name 3 Christians who I know walk in the…

>judging christians
read this and pretend you didn’t write it and then think  about how this makes you feel as a christian. judged or something?

idk I agree with the main idea fully. it’s just christians aren’t bad and it’s not that there’s way too many christians who are obnoxiously loud about their religion and beliefs, it’s just that the people who aren’t obnoxious… aren’t obnoxious about not being obnoxious and therefore aren’t noticed as much. you know?

I’ve actually thought a lot of similar things re: christians before, but thinking about it, I was really, really wrong. I just paid too much attention to the loud preaching-things-I-disagree-with christians and not enough attention to people like

  • my lesbian priest, friends with my asshole atheist dad
  • my friends
  • my mom
  • the kids in my sunday school class
  • teachers
  • myself
  • self

be the change you want to see in the world
Ghandi also said that. I accept other regardless of anything. I treat others with kindness and respect.

I think it’s important to look at yourself and others around you before you form a generalized opinion like that.

I completely agree with the part I that I put in bold letters. I didn’t mean to generalize Christians as a whole, because I know that one group doesn’t mean one thought process. I just tend to speak radically when I feel strongly about something *shoulder shrug*. But anyway, in a less radical approach, I don’t like the way some Christians and some people carry themselves. I don’t like when people act as if they don’t have flaws. I don’t like seeing anyone being mistreated or looked down upon, because of their beliefs or their ways of doing things. I know that I’m not perfect, so I don’t expect anyone else to be, but when I see someone being treated with disrespect (gays, sexually active teens, atheists, etc) I can’t help but take it personally. Also, that’s one of my favorite Gandhi quotes (awesome guy). I always treat people the way I want to be treated, even if they aren’t the nicest people. I’m not always this harsh lol but like I said, I’m not perfect.

Christians vs Christianity

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”-Gandhi

And Gandhi is so RIGHT. Christians have to be the most horrible, judgmental, close-minded people on the planet. I can only name 3 Christians who I know walk in the image of Christ. Meaning that they treat others with kindness and respect. Meaning that they accept people for who they are rather than judging them for their actions. A lot of Christians boast about their religion, which would be fine if they didn’t belittle others in the process. They go on about how holy they are, how they’re still virgins, how they always go to church etc, and at the same time judge the people who don’t. Example: “She’s pregnant?! Wow, she needs to get her life right with God! That’s why I’m still a virgin!” This isn’t an exact quote, but its more than close enough. It really pissed me off, because she said it as if being a virgin means being a good person. Being a virgin doesn’t make you innocent, not being a virgin doesn’t make you a satanic whore.  Another example: “I hate when people say that they were born gay. Like, what? How can you be born gay? You CHOOSE to be gay, God doesn’t make gay people.” This really pissed me off too >_< How close-minded can you be? Were you not born straight? At what point in your life did you have a conversation with yourself pertaining to your sexuality? Have you ever had to ask yourself “Hmm do I want to like boys? Or do I want to like girls?” People act as if they’re louder or more boastful about their relationship with God that it makes them a better person or a better Christian, but it doesn’t. I don’t like Christians who are so quick to preach, but so slow to practice. Practice what you preach.

And yes, I am a Christian.

“Be Original?”

^ NO. Be YOURSELF. If you’re a fucking follower, be a fucking follower. If you’re trendy, be fucking trendy. I don’t know people go out of their way to be deemed “original”. If you like something, why do you feel as though you have to stop liking it just because someone else does too?  If you have to TRY to be original, originality is not for you. You shouldn’t have to put effort into your personality. Its impossible to be completely original! There’s always going to be someone who has similar interests as you or has a similar sense of style or whatever. Again, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BE COMPLETELY ORIGINAL.  Especially since nowadays almost everyone’s idea of “original” is the same.

Stop telling me what the fuck I do. Stop telling who the fuck I am. Stop trying to put me in a fucking category. Just STOP. You don’t fucking know me. You’re never going to fucking know me. I don’t want to fucking know you. And understand that the only things you know about me are the things that I CHOOSE to reveal to you; which isn’t even close to being close to even a quarter of my persona. You know my name, not me. Fuck off.
